Dollhouse

We don't have a television (well, okay, we do have one but it has rabbit ears and a bad signal. We get two fuzzy channels on a good day) so whatever I watch is either online or on DVD. I haven't watched anything but the occasional movie for months now and honestly haven't felt that I've been missing anything.

Until Dollhouse. Since I love (no, LOVE!) everything by Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly, I was dreading having to wait until the DVDs came out.

Thank God for the internet.

All of the episodes are on Hulu.

Eliza Dushku has never been better, the action is intense, the story is intriguing and there were guns. Really. And an inkling of proof that someone involved in making the show is quite possibly a real gunny. No kidding. The second episode opened with a bloody scene - something violent and dangerous had happened at the dollhouse - and one of the characters who had survived the initial attack wanted to protect himself, and asked for a gun.

"Seriously? Gun?" he asked, hands out and pleading, in perfect Whedonesque style.

And in another scene, Echo (Dushku) is asked if she knows how to use a gun. "I have three brothers, and none of them Democrats," she says as she racked the slide, finger carefully indexed along the frame.

My kind of show.

You and I key on the same things. I also liked that the suppressed weapon that was used in that episode wasn't -- you know -- silent.

Dollhouse is WAY too good. Fox will find a way to screw it up.

I watched it as well and as soon as I heard this I knew it was my kind of show.

Even without that, guns + hottie usually means I'll at least give it a chance.

Eliza Dushku is a self-professed bowhunter. Cam brought up that fact a few weeks ago on his show. PETA has her in their sights. I wish I knew where I could go to show her my support.

We caught the last episode by accident and were intrigued.

But FOX? Seriously? Whedon must be some kind of masochist after the Firefly fiasco and what they did to Nathan Fillion with Drive.

Wai- very cool info thx.

If Fox screws this up I say we storm the castle.

Ditto everything said above. My husband is so-far refusing to watch it, but I MADE him come in and watch that scene.

He'll come 'round. He didn't like Firefly the first time through, either.

The last scene was definitely a "wait, what" scene. Still, can't Hollywood get past the racking the slide idiocy and show a female character really check a gun given to them?

The first scene mentioned is all the more significant in that the character begging for a gun is the geek who controls the dolls so to speak. One of the "actives" has gone out of his control and he really, really wants a gun from the hard types he looks down upon otherwise

In telling the story of how the show came to be, Whedon relates that he lunched with Dushku and she just floated the idea. By the end of the meal, they had the proposal. I think Dushku had the development deal. Whedon went home and told his wife something to the effect of, "God help me, I'm pitching another science fiction show to Fox!"

Whedon is brilliant. I had some initial reservations about Dollhouse when I first watched it. It had that eerie feel to it like "Memento" had. I am starting warm up to the show. I have always liked Dushku, and thought she was a good actress (I hated Tru Calling though). The show is progressing very well.......They just need to "keep the shoulder to the wheel." :-)

I haven't seen the show. But, I certainly will find it and check it out. It is AWESOME to see some positive and knowlegeable practices on television for a change.

One more thing, other Fox show are only on Hulu in limited amounts so don't count on these episodes sticking around.

Seems promising. I guess I'll have to wait for the DVDs, though.

But... Fox? I thought Joss Whedon swore he'd never work with them again after they murdered Firefly (and I don't blame him).

If you like Joss Whedon, you mike like "Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog."

I quite like the concept of the Evil League of Evil.

I'm surprised the Huffington Post didn't go Krakatoa over that line. Or maybe I missed it.

i agree with those who wonder why Whedon went through Fox for this show. i missed the Dollhouse panel at Comic-Con, so i didn't get a chance to really hear him talk about it.

i also think you should watch Dr. Horrible (it's on Hulu) if you haven't yet. those damned songs are still lodged in my brain and it's been almost a year since release.

He put it on Fox because sadly enough, they're the least likely to try and fuck with the show. They might outright cancel it, but they won't force the show in another direction.

He pitched it to Fox because Dushku still had a production contract with them.

Dushku on Kimmel with her bow.
