Whatever happened to "my body, my choice"?

The federally funded Obamacare program will be a nightmare. (Just look at the overburdened, inefficient behemoth that is Social Security) The quality of care will go down, your taxes will necessarily go up and care and medicine will be rationed because the government will want to keep costs down - bureaucracies are expensive, folks. And just imagine the unintelligible, surly GED graduates who work at the DMV handling your medical records. Or the dimwit at the post office who cannot manage to put the correct mail in your p.o. box (no matter how many times you ask) drawing your blood for a routine test. A routine test, mind you, that you will have already waited months to get - if you're allowed to get it at all. Some stranger, somewhere, in some office will decide if you are worth the cost. God help you if it's a Friday afternoon when your paperwork lands on their desk, or the day before they go on vacation, or if they're in a bad mood or or have quietly decided in their own mind that amputees/diabetics/AIDS patients/the elderly/children with cancer/people with blue eyes/etc/etc are a drain on society.

(o god, my disabled life.)

And yet now, with the Obama administration, we're all one eco-zealot sociopathic nutcase science czar away from being declared "undesireable."

Socialized medicine is coming. Sure, you can call it "universal heathcare" to soften the blow but I'm still frightened.

I bet it will be worse than we can imagine now.

You'll be OK. You've got a machine gun for a leg, right? Who would mess with you?

I just got the second Alcatraz book, by the way. Down with the Librarians!

If we lose private health care, we will NEVER get it back.

I'm a rehabilitation RN. I am NOT looking forward to this. I already worked for the .gov for 20 years; I don't want to end up working for them again. I'll give up the license and work in private security if I have to....

Rusty. You are not alone. Not only would Obama's plan make everyone's average level of care diminish, simply by adding millions of currently uninsured people, but the number of available doctors and nurses WILL decrease, since the government will be dictating how much profit they can make. How many people want to go to school for that many years and take on that much debt, only to be told that they can only make as much per year as the mill worker whose broken leg they just set?

Scary for me too, because I am never going to be one of the "elite" that gets unrestricted health care. It isn't so much death that bothers me, it's pain or disability.

But then, The One is fairly young and fit...and is one of the "elite".

Makes me glad I had cancer when I did, instead of later when it would have been a lot worse due to long waits and sub-par treatments.

I wasn't going to comment, since I already know what government health care is (the military is covered completely by government health care) - to the point of getting sent to civilian hospitals and clinics for what service medicine can't handle. But the word verification struck me as totally on....

festion - wv how the government will spell infestation with a lower budget...

Guess I have to be glad of bypass surgery when I had it, too. By next year it may have been too late.

I thought the bit about if you don't already have private insurance by the first of the year in which the bill will be passed, you can't get it at all, was a nice touch.
As someone much wiser than I pointed out several weeks ago: Cap and Trade can be repealed, nationalized healthcare can't.

I'm 68 so I'll just do my patroitic duty and die. Save them the cost of treating any illness I get, and then they can give my social security to an illigal.

and, don't forget to mention that congress and ALL federal employees will be covered under a seperate system. no waiting for them, no limits, no one deciding level of "care"

Search the bill for the phrase "death counseling." That paragraph will have you reaching for the tar and feathers.
Never trust your health to any organization that finds it more profitable for you to die.

Nickie,
Sure we will -- after Western Civilization totally collapses and starts to rebuild. You and I may not live to see that though.

This is National Socialism, and since we Americans do everything with excellence, we'll demonstrate just what pikers the Hitler Gesellschaft were. And we'll have it because Americans put up with utter nonsense from the Republicans, because they weren't as batshit insane as the Democrats. The minute any 'Pug started talking about the "health care crisis", we needed to heat the tar and pluck the chickens.

"efibings"? wow, these verification words ARE right on today!

What I'm looking forward to, as I think we all should be, is having my own personal little .gov powered health advisor. They will carefully explain in simple terms that any and all activities .gov deems "dangerous" or "hazardous" will no longer be allowed, otherwise, all health insurance benefits will be denied to those who engage in the activities.

How much money has the CDC spent over the years telling us lumps that guns are bad for us?

Thank you Hope and Change!

I received socialized medicine in my home country for 22 years. Within months of my arrival in the US, I was forced to seek treatment in the American system. I had several problems that required treatment. These problems had been present during my socialized medicine checkups, but the state-run insurance program covering me did not deem treating them necessary yet, so they were left to get worse.

As a result of my experiences in both systems, I have come to the conclusion that the American healthcare system is decidedly superior to any socialized system. The bottom line is that socializing medicine means reducing access and lowering quality. Basically, socialized medicine lowers cost by letting patients die with as many untreated conditions as possible.

Be careful what you ask for, Americans, because you might get it.

Breda- I'm concerned they will once again come after the military retirees and wounded vets to pay for their care...

Did it- We may not have any choice... With cutting Medicare in half, and other "savings" in elderly health care, I'm afraid the savings is going to be refusal of services...

To answer your original question -
"Whatever happened to "my body, my choice"?"

That only applies if you're pregnant and want an abortion.

Where did you find that "death counseling" part? I did a search of the PDF for the bill I could find (H.R. 3200) and that phrase isn't in there.

Have any of you contacted your congresscritters? Participated in an Anti-Obama-care rally? Tea Party?
Here's a link to my own Letter to My Senators.
Here's a little Rant I did which contains some other talking points. (Many of which Breda hit.)
A quote from Fred Hayek re: Nationalizing health care.
Posts from Gatweway Pundit in which it is revealed that Obamacare Will Cover 12 Million Illegal Aliens and that Obamacare May Fund Abortions (Video). So I guess, when it comes to abortions, "My Body, My Choice" is still there, despite His Imperial Majesty's promises to the Pope...

While I too am opposed to Obama's plan and have written about it on my blog as well, I take offense to this line in your post:
"unintelligible, surly GED graduates"
Breda, I am one of those GED graduates you refer to. I'll admit that sometimes I am surly...but I am rarely unintelligible.
I don't get your need to be snarky. With that line, you put down an entire population of people who made an effort to right a wrong and continue their education when whatever reason or circumstance stopped them previously.
Again, snarky isn't necessary...its just mean. But if the shoe fits......

But wait! There's more!

See this post by Liberty Belle: http://redistributingknowledge.blogspot.com/2009/07/health-care-battle-post-to-end-all.html

Dear Leader's "health care policy advisor" is "bio-ethicist" Ezekiel Emanuel, brother of Rahmmie.

Liberty Belle quotes extensively--well, fisks, actually--from a peer-reviewed article in the Lancet that Dr Emanuel wrote with some some colleagues., discussing the most efficient ways to ration health care so it doesn't get wasted on those who are too old, infirm, or otherwise undesirable...

Precisely. This is how our new führers will decide who lives and who dies. New slogan: ObamaCare -- not as fast as an Auschwitz, but just as sure.

Lucy - Not every high school (or for that matter, college) graduate is honestly interested in continuing their education after they get a diploma and I daresay not every GED graduate is either. Props to you for doing so, but Lucy, have you ever been to the DMV? Seriously? I'm surprised some of them managed to finish GRADE school.

lucy said...

You missed the point...but I am not surprised.

Lucy -

This is so funny. You come on my blog, get offended by something that wasn't even directed at you, and then call ME names.

Do you work in the DMV? Did I say "all GED graduates"? No? Then I was clearly not referring to you.

You seem to come here just itching for something to get your panties in a twist over. Something that you can relate to your own life so you can feel righteous when you declare, "I am so offended! Me me me!"

People who act this way usually 1.) are slightly paranoid, 2.) have no sense of humor, or 3.) are completely self-centered.

So, guess what? My blog is not about you or your own personal triumph over hardship. Sorry.

Worse yet, the bill is a monstrosity that's all about *Socialized* and not a whole lot about health. Here's a guy who's been reading the first 400-pages.
It includes stuff like:
PG 455 Lines 3-4 Govt exempts itself from Chapter 35, Title 44 of the Paperwork Reduct & Citizens Privacy Protection Act.
Pg 145 Line 15-17 An Employer MUST auto enroll employees into public "option" plan. NO CHOICE.
pg 127 Lines 1-16 Doctors & AMA – The Govt will tell YOU what you can make.
Pg 111 Sec 208 The Federal Govt will usurp all State powers in State Based Health Care Exchng. (Violation 10th Amend.)
Pg 110 Lines 13-18 An excise tax on ALL goods from companies not offering Govt Health Care. ALL Americans pay.
Pg 62 HC bill – Protection of Data, Govt shows they will have database of your personal & financial info.
Pg 37 Sec 132 of HC Bill – The Govt will be reviewing grievances about *themselves* and will decide on appeals for rejected claims.

It's really obscene.
