My very own tax dollars at work, now with video.
I want someone to go into that classroom and ask those kids to read an analog clock, identify an adjective in a sentence or do some long division. (And for extra credit, ask them about the Bill of Rights.)
And I guess we know who little Scotty's parents voted for, don't we? "Americans think of themselves before the world" - right. Forget that we are the most charitable nation in the history of the planet and how much American blood has been shed fighting for freedom in distant lands. Oh but no...we have SUVs, eat cheeseburgers, and don't recycle enough or something...we're selfish.

OMFG I almost pulled my GRRRR!!!! muscle on this one.
"a state of calm and serenity, with no anxiety, the absence of violence, freedom from conflict or disagreement among people or groups of people."
You get that when you are dead. Stupid liberals, turning another generation into mush heads with their idiocy.
Pinheads making pinwheels for peace...
I'm pretty sure that teacher's stoned, by the way.
Yep, and when those kids get out in the real world, they will find out that the lion WILL lie down with the lamb, just as long as you keep replacing the lamb. God help this poor country..........
If you really want your blood to boil, watch this video (got it via Drudge).

Sort of like a flock of sheep just before the wolf finds them.
Breda: The hurricane to your f!@#king pinwheels.
It's really weird that you would have a problem with that, Breda. What would you have them teach the kids, aside from long division and grammar, which these kids probably get anyway. Maybe you'd have them learn about aggression and "don't tread on me." How about self-defense and what a dangerous world it is out there?
The only thing weirder than you're having a problem with that is every one of your commenters agreed.
You guys are something else.
MikeB,
Shouldn't it be the schools responsibility to teach the history, the development, the technical aspects of art?
Should they leave the moral lectures and teaching to parents?
This is another case of the government intruding into private realms.
If the teachers were instructing the students to make firearms for a "Peace through Superior Firepower Campaign" you would be all over it, right Sparky?
How about the art class stay on topics that the schools should be teaching; things like history, science, math, etc.
Plenty of art projects available from those subjects.
Hey, while you are here; why don't you tell Breda your theory on how "guns are bad for women", eh?
Dear Lord! My Social Security payments will be dependent on what these kids will be able to produce.
Thank Heaven I invested in precious metals: gold, silver, blued steel ...
"Americans think of themselves before the world"
Well, yeah, because it's my responsibility to look out for myself. Is it so wrong to expect others to do the same? Not that we shouldn't help if we are able, but I fail to see the evil in this statement.
Sic vis pacem para pinwheels?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Communism, Fascism, Slavery and feudalism were not defeated with happy thoughts and children singing.
Bob S. said, "Hey, while you are here; why don't you tell Breda your theory on how "guns are bad for women", eh?"
I think Breda knows about that very well because she's one of the few exceptions that prove the rule.
Mike - your "rule" is not backed up by any substantive, empirical data. It's not a rule but merely your usual biased, unsubstantiated opinion.
Please get a dictionary and stop misusing terms.
Can they show me any nation, anywhere, that thinks of "the world" first?
America! A lot like every other nation on Earth in some ways!
"Life's a two-way street: If you respect others, others will respect you," Brooke Figler offered.
Yeah. Except for criminals. And bullies. And gangs. And muslim men who see more than your eyes over the top of your missing chador.
When will the schools actually teach children reality, instead of hopey, changey, unicorn fart wishful thinking? Bad stuff is out there. That is reality. Wishing it weren't so does not make it go away, nor does it protect anyone who wishes to believe otherwise.
Communism, Fascism, Slavery and feudalism were not defeated with happy thoughts and children singing. No indeed, but each of those produced children singing "happy-thoughts" instead of independent thinkers.
"Have everyone in the world, like, more friendly," Mitchell Seidel said.
Gargh! I think the English teacher should have been brought in to proofread these inspirational pinwheels.
Gargh! I think the English teacher should have been brought in to proofread these inspirational pinwheels.
Well, I suppose they could, but they couldn't possibly, you know, comment on incorrect use of the English language, because, you know, the widdle kiddies might get their feelers, like, hurt. Or something. Like.
Good Lord, Mike -- you don't realize that you're interpreting that old saying 180 degrees from what it means, do you?
It comes from legal jargon.
Basically, if specifc "exceptions" are made in a general prohibition, then anything NOT excepted is prohibited by the rule. (Also true if it is a general permission with specific exceptions -- anything NOT excepted is permitted.)
If a general prohibition or permission doesn't have specific exceptions, then there is a fuzzy area where judgement calls are supposed to be made on a case by case basis (since NOTHING under the law is actually absolute).
Which is why the 13th Amendment is so much easier to adjudicate than the 1st Amendment.
The "proof" the idiom refers to is the same general meaning as "proof" in firearms testing. It's a specific, limited stress case that defines the limits of the general rule.
Now, if your theory was that, "Guns are not suitable for women, except Breda," THAT would be a proper application of the idiom. Even if you said, "Guns are not GENERALLY suitable for women, except those with the proper mindset and training," (a statement I think ALL of us can agree with, if "women" were replaced by "people") -- THAT would be a propoer place to use it.
But in a general statement WITHOUT qualification or specifc exceptions, it's inappropriate and moronic to invoke it.
Y'know, it's a darned pity Joel Chandler Harris isn't read any more; his version of "The Tar Baby" is an excellent guide to why wrestling with ijits is a bad idea.
"a state of calm and serenity, with no anxiety, the absence of violence, freedom from conflict or disagreement among people or groups of people."
Wow, what a case of projection.
"You guys are something else."
Among other evils which being unarmed brings you, it causes you to be despised. - Niccolo Machiavelli
"No indeed, but each of those produced children singing "happy-thoughts" instead of independent thinkers."
If you haven't already, read Robert Heinlein's "Pravda Means Truth." He saw 5 year olds taught to sing about the glorious revolution. Hmm, why does that sound familiar?
@ Roberta X:
Heh. So true, but it's still a temptation, every time, to try and get someone to see what should be glaringly obvious. Perhaps that makes us the ultimate optimists?
Here I thought the video was bad enough, then mikebhavingadoubledigitIQ shows up.
Time to see a doctor for some meds, that much stupid has been shown to kill people.
"a state of calm and serenity, with no anxiety, the absence of violence, freedom from conflict or disagreement among people or groups of people."
Reminds me of that planet "Miranda" in the movie Serenity - those folks were mighty peaceful after the anti-aggression stuff worked on them. Except for that 10% or so that went nuts...
