who knows what lurks in the stacks

Yet another library worker was attacked recently, but "fortunately she was able to fight back and save her own life." Too bad she probably wasn't allowed to carry one of the world's best tools - it would have made the job that much easier.

(I'm glad I have the day off today, because reading stuff like this is starting to really unnerve me.)

Saved by the dullness of a knife ...

Glad she's ok.

very unnerving, our local library has been for the last 4 years trying to become a total health and human resources center, they are horrified and shocked that the local bums, mental cases and drugged up creeps are now causing very bad problems.
stay safe darlin!

It'd be a shame if he bled all over the books, but it is a greater shame that he didn't.

So she went to the Library on an off day, to empty the return slot, and was shocked to find someone there? Uh....Condition White?

"She had no idea anyone else was there when suddenly the man walked up from behind and started stabbing her."

I hate to say this, but a gun wouldn't have done here a damn bit of good under those circumstances, except maybe give him something to shoot her with. :(

Here in Florida there is no legal prohibition to having a firearm in a library unless the library is on the campus of a school. Her boss may have issues with CC and could discriminate against her employment but it's not illegal. I would bet that her not carrying is a personal choice. I was dismayed to see the TV channel publishing her photo though.

I'm thinking that in today's world, one shouldn't assume that you are safe anywhere, outside one's own home behind GOOD locked doors. Plus, couldn't her hubby or friend have gone with her, then maybe go to lunch or something afterward? Also, this applies to all the macho guys, also. Remember the shooting in Tremont a few weeks ago? It's called "Backup" for a reason, i.e., to have someone watch your back.
