I think I need more knives.

Woefully small collection, but this is what I found when I cleaned out my bedside table this afternoon.

What's your favorite knife?

One of my SOG knives.

All of them!

Though, to answer your question, the one that I use the most, the little Kershaw Leek, is probably my favorite. But really, I'm a sucker for a good knife. Or a mediocre knife.

...

And I have a soft spot for really cheap knives of the sort that come from the 99-cent bin at the hardware store.

Kershaw Chive. Nice knife, good edge, small enough to take everywhere that isn't an airport.

1) Standard Ka-Bar. Black.
2) Kershaw spring assisted.
3) Multi-Tool. One of many.
4) Kuri. Full size.
5) Machete classic.
6) Boot knives.
7) Butterfly knives.
8) Swords.
9) Axes and hatchets.

The list goes on. Multiples of each.

SOG Flash II, like this one (http://sogknives.com/store/GFSA-98.html), with the safety removed. I also have Gerbers and Kabars, but this SOG gets the daily duty.

Hmm, I think you might want to take a look at the Cold Steel Spike neck knife series. Lot's of fun those...

I particularly like mine - the Spike Tanto!

I do love my little Kershaw assisted EDC knife, but I feel quite awesome whenever I pull out my Fairburn Sykes Commando. That's just plain sexy in blade form.

Breda,

Your collection may be small, but you have some good stuff in it.

Looks like a 5" Kabar and a V42 or Raider stiletto copy for two of them. Which is it, the V42 (1st Special Service Force) or Raider knife (USMC Raiders)?

As far as my favorites, here you go:

LBE/combat: 7" USMC Kabar, Buck 124 Frontiersman 2nd choice.

General utility fixed blade: KJ Ericksson Mora Knife, Model 946 Stainless.

Pocket carry protection/seat belt escape: Spyderco Clipit Endura or Delica partially serrated.

Pocket carry, utility: Kabar Scout knife or copy to save the Kabar.

Multi-tool: The original Leatherman Tool, in the Marlboro stamped version gotten with Marlboro miles.

Favorite knife -- Buck Knife Folding Hunter that I bought when I was 14 years old.

Took it to Philmont High Adventure camp at 16, used it in the Air Force for 4 years and over half dozen years as an adult Scouter for the two with my two sons.

Still sharp enough to shave with after 3 decades.

They are all great, but I am partial to my Randall No. 1 with sambar stag handle. As beautiful as it is, I really treasure it because I got it from my friend, a combat SEAL, a patriot, and a good American. Seeing it always reminds me of him and I send a small prayer that he will be safe in whatever godforsaken part of the world he is in.

I'll echo Nashville Beat on the Randall #1, I've had one since the late 80's that I love. It too has a stag handle, is 8" long, is stainless with brass furniture.

My every day carry(EDC) knives, however, are a Keen Kutter Boy Scout pattern knife and a Spyderco Tenacious.

My next knife purchase will probably be a Cold Steel 6" Ti-Lite folder.

My 'favorite'? I suppose it's the Blackhawk 'Be-Wharned' I carry every day. Like the whacked out Navy Seal down at Blackhawk proclaimed with such glee... "It's like a razor blade that can punch through bone!".

I also have a lifetimes collection of folders and straights, including a fair handful of bayonets and such.

The thing is, I don't consider myself a 'knife' person. The one I carry is a tool, and some of the others have sentimental value, but that's about it.

Knives as weapons? They scare the hell out of me, and I guess that's because I have known some people with far too much training and experience in using knives in unfriendly ways. The simple fact is... if one of THOSE guys was within ten feet of me, and had a knife, there is not a single blessed thing I could do to defend myself. I wouldn't even have time to form the thoughts.

BRRrrrrr.....

Nice junk on the bunk shot, Breda!

I'd have to separate my knife collection into pocket, fixed, and bayonet...

As for favorite? I'd have to say the ancient Swiss Army knife I inherited from my grandfather. Sentimental reasons, of course; I have a multitool that's a lot more useful, but it has no story, no soul...

And not one but two balisongs? I'm impressed!

w00t!!

Oh, wait. You are talking about a picture of knives. :-(

I'll bet this is only part of it Jay. She's got more junk behind her.

Breda - What's the one in the upper right hand corner?

breda said...

MikeW - it's a sooper seekrit plastic Cold Steel knife.

You need a full-sized kukuri. A 15" BAS or 16.5" WWII would probably work for you.

Favorite? I loose them too easily. I dare not get a fancy one.

Buck Juno. Cheap farm store lockback with an ergonomic handle.

Macbrun said...

"What's your favorite knife?"

The one I have with me.

Mad Saint Jack said...

Favorite knife is a Cold Steel Light Gurkha Kukri (x2).

Most carried is a Spyderco Harpy knife (not counting the SpyderCard that is always in my wallet).

I think you should look at the Cold Steel Magnum Kukri Machete. It is cheep and would be good for taking zombies apart.

You are going to make us ALL blog our knives, aren't you!?

John B said...

amongst yours, I like that silver dagger, myself I absolutely heart the Gerber EVO. that little nub that allows you to flick that puppy open like a switchblade. In fact a policeman wanted to confiscate it when he saw me snap it open to answer my mail.

Macbrun said...

John B - I have the Gerber EVO as well. Love that little knife. It's actually the one I have with me most of the time. I'd carry my CRKT M16-14 Zytel Desert Special Forces Tanto more, though, if it were practical (it's a bit too big for comfortable pocket-carry).

Firehand said...

Depends. General carry have the CRKT Drifter; personal favorite the sgian dhu forged from a ball bearing or the bowie from a truck spring.

sobriant74 said...

CRKT carson design M16-10KZ that's always in my pocket is my fav. Small enough for everyday carry, large enough to be useful. That's why I own three of 'em. I pulled all of mine out over the summer while organizing my gun closet and was pretty well surprised by the number of knives I own, Me thinks they might be breeding.

NotClauswitz said...

My Krag Bayonet and my Kukuri, otherwise not a big knife-nick. Do like my Utica M1 Garand bayo and the Aerial Cutlery M1 Carbine though.
That little thing's not a Kukuri, THIS is a Kukuri.

My favorite would be my Moore Maker (Matador Texas) Buckaroo: 4 1/8" Trapper sytle with 2 master blades (no spey blade) in carbon steel with a yellow bone handle - a fine pig sticker.

Based upon the fact that it's always with me, my favorite would be my Kershaw 1550ST Blackout assisted-opening http://www.kershawknives.com/productdetails.php?id=76&brand=kershaw knife. I've had it for a long time and carry it daily. For awhile, I thought my CRKT My Tighe would replace it but the lightweight of the Kershaw won me over.
