(Wonderful blog. If you don't read him, you should. But if you don't, at least read this post. It's one of the ones that has changed my life.)

IMHO, if one wants to OC, then it should be no more exciting than wearing a Hat or putting a Pen in your shirt pocket. Treat it as just another article of attire.

But the Fashion Police DO say that the "Baring of Arms" should be treated as wearing White: only after Memorial Day, and stopping on Labor Day. I don't make the rules....... ; )

When you open carry you are an ambassador for the cause whether you want to be or not. It is best to conduct yourself accordingly (which you should be doing anyway, as a gentleman / lady and decent person)

I think his post does a good job of conveying that concept.

Too bad you can't "like" a blogger post... :(

Being in virginia, I can and do OC often. I amaze myself at how NICE and FRIENDLY I am when carrying. I even avoid reactions to idiot drivers. Low profile is the rule.

I call bullcrap on the FALSE notion that someone open carrying "is an ambassador for the cause whether you want to be or not"

Total idiotic thinking, and it has to stop......

UNLESS IT IS TRUE THAT EVERYONE THAT..........

reads a newspaper represents all readers.....

drives a car represents all drivers.....

swings a hammer represents all carpenters......

Hopefully you can comprehend my point,

STOP trying to say that I REPRESENT YOU or YOU REPRESENT ME just because we happen to do a similar activity at different times and places.

Ones character & conduct always matters and poor character & conduct by some can have negative implications for others. We may not like this but it's the truth, especially with something as emotional & politically driven as gun rights.

No one is seriously trying to ban newspapers or disarm carpenters with hammers.

"don't be an asshole" is a good rule to follow because whether right or not, the actions of assholes do reflect poorly upon me as an OCer and can have negative implications. Case in point. Michigan Open Carry and the resulting carry ban in public libraries.

You have failed to realize the truth.... You are WAY TOO POLITICALLY CORRECT..... In your thinking and your way of looking at things.

Your actions ONLY reflect on YOU, not me, because I DO NOT ALLOW another persons actions to affect my freedoms/rights. If you want to allow their actions to affect yours, have at it...

My freedoms/rights are from/guaranteed by the Constitution/Bill of Rights/My Creator. My rights do not change because some idiot liberal or bootlicker thinks I shouldnt exercise them the way I want to.

Axe,

Your moral rights may not change based on the whim of Man, but that won't help when the sheeple demand passing a law against said right, and the po-po enforce it against you with deadly result.

You'll be just as dead.

While natural rights may well descend from the Creator (as I believe they do), since He neglected to leave a call-back number so the courts can verify WHICH of the eleventy-thousand (and usually mutually exclusively with most of the other rights so claimed to have divine sanction by someone) claimed to be "God-given rights" (by some segment of the population) really are ones He gave us, we have to actually write the important ones down (constitutions, statutes, case law, etc.) that we (collectively) agree actually are "basic" rights that are "natural" and are merely enforceable by, not dependant on or granted by, government.

After all, there are people who claim it is their "God-given, natural" right to own other human beings, based on the differences in skin color or genital arrangement. . . I sure as Hell don't recognize THOSE claims as "rights", pre-existing or otherwise!

So, if your favored claims of rights are not ennumerated in some fashion accepted by society, don't expect society to acknowledge them on your behalf. Which means, you can shout out about your "natural" right to carry a loaded M60 through a nall all you want -- but whether you are morally correct or not matters not a damn bit to the slew of 77 grain rebuttals that will shortly be coming your way at approx 3000 fps.

Or, you can try understanding that "don't be an asshole" when exercising a currently politically unpopular right is tactically smart, because it NORMALIZES that right in the eyes of the people who are not opposed utterly to you yet but do not already agree with you.

Whereas "be an asshole about it" is likely to get those same people to decide, quite fervently, that YOUR theory of natural rights is right up there with Al Qaeda's, you are a danger to society, and send forth their designated hitters to extinguish the perceived threat (that would be YOU, Wookie Boy).
