well, darn
I was going to try to learn how to sew (again...for like the 5th time and after almost failing Home Ec) but it seems I'm not allowed to shop for fabrics and notions at Jo-Ann's.

It may be regional - I was at my "local" on on Saturday and it wasn't posted. The cashier even commented on my "bullet holders". But I won't be shopping there any more until they change their policy.
Take up knitting. Good enough for Gunny Ermey...
If I stopped shopping at every single store that submitted money to anti-gay candidates, I would be naked and starting to death.
All candidates are anti-gay candidates...until it suits their purposes to be otherwise.
Well, except the gay ones, naturally.
But do they put a sign on the door saying, "No gays allowed" ?
These stores don't even want our MONEY.
My local JoAnn has posted. I asked for an explanation from the corporate website, so far haven't heard back from them.
Meh, find an independent shop and give them your business. They generally have more variety in their fabrics anyway, and sometimes you can find really unique things in their notions/accessories.
I haven't seen the sign in my local JoAnn's but will look for it, and will contact their corporate. I've spend a LOT of money there, mainly because it's the only place you can get quality yarn at reasonable prices in Oregon (the Michaels shops out here have a really poor yarn selection, WalMart & similar chains only have crappy acrylic yarn, and I've never even heard of Hobby Lobby). I do shop my local yarn stores but they charge a fortune and a half.
So what do I do about being employed by a university hospital that bans all weapons on their property, by employees, customers, and visitors alike?
How about Michael's?
Joann's is the only place by me that carries fabrics in general. There's a couple of private quilting shops, and Michaels if I want craft stuff, but if I want fabric I have to go to Joann's. That sucks.
Is there an A.C. Moore near you? I think they sell fabric.
Do you have Hancock Fabrics? Also check online retailers. I will see if I can remember some. (My first wife had a craft problem- she literally spent 100K+ in ten years). As an aside, Breda, my word verification is "bar sica". Oh the irony!
Walmart and Pat Catan both have plenty of sewing stuff (saith the guy who has been known to darn his own socks...the wool ones, anyway).
The AC Moore by me didn't sell fabric last time I was in there, which I will admit has been a while. We USED to have a Hancock (infact I worked for them, guess where my paycheck ended back up), but the stores here were among those closed when they declared bankruptcy.
I've bought fabrics online, but in general I don't care too, I'm definetly among the group of people who likes to put their hands on it first!
Thanks for the tip, I did email them, so I might end up on their list of folks to contact to sell stuff to... or if they read what I wrote, I won't.

If you have a CHL, Oregon state law allows concealed carry in schools and universities and near the end of September it was ruled that the Oregon University system's gun bans are illegal.
Keepsake Quilting has mail order fabrics and the quality is wonderful. I, too, am very tactile with fabric purchases but I have always been very satisfied with orders from Keepsake Quilting - it feels like Christmas when the package arrives.
I have seen the signage here in NC as well. It is funny to me that they seem to post it in the less desirable neighborhood stores but not in the ones in better areas. It is as if they think those who are illegally carrying will stay out?
