What not to do

I've seen this passed around the gunblogosphere recently, with both bloggers and commenters berating the man in the video for giving such a wee, stupid, and unsuspecting girl (oh, dearie me! what a big gun you have!) such a large weapon.

Let me be the first to say that the girl in the video is also an idiot and is just as responsible for the willful stupidity shown in the video.

Let's review, shall we?

The girl:
1. is dating/hanging out with/in the proximity of a douchebag who wears a shirt emblazoned with the words "Fuck Y'all"
2. has carefully planned (& don't you think for a second that she didn't) an ensemble of bikini top and camo pants, thinking that, when worn in unison they are attractive in a "I'm tough, but sexy too" sort of way. They are not. Neither are brass burns all over your cleavage if you insist on wearing said outfit while shooting. Nothing at all erotic about scabby blisters. (if you absolutely must wear camo pants - GET DECENT KICKASS BOOTS. Puma tennies do not suffice, even if they are black)
3. has a decent enough grip and shooting stance to convince me that this is not her first experience with guns. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that 50 (caliber) is bigger than say, 22.
4. coyly sticks out her tongue...what the hell is that about? You are holding a very large loaded weapon, honey, not practicing cutting circles in kindergarten.
5. pays no heed to the observers who are actively laughing at her, not with her.

From a woman's perspective, this seems to be an obvious attempt on the girl's part to be cute, to impress the boys, to make them like her, to be the "sexy gun girl"...so I don't feel bad for her at all.

To be perfectly honest, each time I've watched the video it kind of made me smile.

Very nice for an encore perhaps they can show her sitting in the emergency room. As they say “You Can’t Fix Stupid”

I'd like to know where they're shooting? It looks like a public park judging by the water fountain.

OMG... what a baboon. I could see it coming from the start of the video, but I just had to keep watching.

Looks like she might want to do a bit of exercise to help those spaghetti arms of hers; then maybe she could hold onto the gun.

No intelligence test to buy a firearm......

Nor get a drivers license....

Nor cat a vote...

Nor run for office....

Scary, huh?

RANT:
Personally, I think that the DE .50 is the dumbest handgun ever made. I can understand the Ruger and S&W "Alaskans" as they qualify as "bear medicine", but a .50 autoloader? Kinda a novelty and proof of concept, but the wetdream of every dipshit gun-shop commando.

(The guy, with that shirt, must truly be that...)
END RANT

What is sad though is that, with just a slight bit of training, the DE .50 can be fired by almost anyone. That puts the blame on the guy who put it in the hands of a girl that has obviously never done any shooting before, possibly even souring her experience toward the discipline forever.

What is that old gunny adage?
"Carry the largest gun you can conceal, in the largest caliber you can shoot both quickly and accurately."

It's not her arms, it's the grip. Typical of people who learn stance and hold from looking at pictures. The erstwhile 'instructor' ("instigator"?) has a lot to explain here. He's damned lucky.

There's a prescribed series of events for this: you study the position, practice the position without the gun, practice the position with unloaded gun, and only after all that do you fire. The coach's job is to analyze the stance, hold, and sighting technique before the student fires--precisely to keep this from happening. This was not a shooting lesson, it was a set-up. It's usually pulled with a 12-gauge: let the smaller person hold the shotgun an inch or so off the shoulder, and you can show off the bruise all week. Very funny.

For what it's worth, newly-bifocalled middle-aged men (and I do mean 40) do this all the time when they put sniper scopes on midlife-crisis size elk pistols. It leaves a mark. They also find out, at 6-power, just how steady their Charles Atlas dynamic-tension hold has been all these years. At that point, in my experience, they usually blame the gun.

I think she's shot before. Look at the slow-motion. Her finger is on the frame right after the shot goes off, thats some one who knows rule 3.

She's still a twit, and the guys are still %&^($&((*#&#&*$(%( of questionable genetic heritage.

breda,

You confirm something I posted at Unc's - there's nothing in the video to indicate that this was her first time shooting.

Hell, the first time I touched off a .44 Magnum round, I bounced the S&W model 29 off my forehead, and that was after I'd been shooting for quite some time.

NOTE: No matter how cool you think you are, firing too large of a gun one-handed when you don't know what the recoil is like is a BAD idea... I think that applies here...

Its sort of like a car crash you know is coming . . . you can't take your eyes off because you already know the logical conclusion. Great post. I linked to it.

I was pretty impressed that she indexed even after she got wacked

Re. #4, I know a woman who sticks her tongue out a little when concentrating on things.

It's not an attempt to be coy for her, it's purely unconscious.

sigivald, I agree with you diagnosis; it's an especially dangerous habit in this case. There's absolutely nothing to prevent her from biting through that tongue on recoil.

@mike w.: I had the exact same question. Park? Golf course? How is that?

That's gonna leave a mark!

if you actually can find the original video on you tube it actually states that this woman is in fact the wife of the guy with the black shirt. he states that she is dead on with other weapons its just that this caught her off guard. Honestly a .50 DE is an awesome gun, destructive but if your not too scared then maybe you'll get better at it. this is the original video link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFJjaj7pXsA
