It's time.

I just called the range. The next CCW class is at the end of March and we will be in it. I am putting this in writing so that we cannot make excuses and put it off again.

I'm happy to get my license but, to be honest, I would open carry everywhere if it weren't for the inevitable hysterics. (& if you haven't read On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs by Dave Grossman, go do it now.)

I like my husband. I like my family, my friends, my cats, and my house. I like my brain, thinking my thoughts; I like my body, doing the things it is able - all of these, and more, make up my (pretty damn good) life, and all are worth defending.

Right on! I recommend classes like that even if you don't intend to get your license. I also recommend getting a license even if you don't intend to carry. I also recommend carrying :)

I usually open carry a CZ 82 in its issue military holster. So far only 2 people have noticed that its a gun. The first one commented on the nice holster. I have a CCW too but im to old and tired to try to hide it.

Good!

The more intelligent people, who care enough about their own safety to do something about it, the better.

Not only is it good for you, it's good for society.... if that counts too....

Awesome Breda! Good luck!

How difficult is it to get your license in Ohio? Not too bad I hope, and hopefully no publishing requirement like we have here.

Living in Tucson, AZ, I open carry a majority of the time. I get a few looks from time to time, but nothing else.

When I was in Yuma, AZ, would get called on about once a month in the wintertime. The snowbirds would point at me when the police arrive and say "He's got a gun. Aren't you going to arrest him?" They would look at me, look at them, then give them a ticket for false call or something like that.

Brenda,

Good for you! My wife just recently got her CHL (here in Texas). It took a while for her to get up the courage. However, she went to an all ladies CHL class and did a super job. Now she is inseparable from her Glock 19. Hope all goes well for you.

Good luck! I am hoping that they'll have a class in May or summer--I would like to take the March class, but I don't dare lose 12 hours of study time this semester. Figure I might just as well wait, because both my employer and the institution of higher learning I attend (big surprise there) forbid effective self-defense. I'm thinking seriously about wearing an empty holster to class the week of April 21-25.

End of March? Wow. I'm in central Florida, about an hour's drive north of Orlando, and the range that's ten minutes from my house has scheduled classes every week or two on Saturday, and it seems they fill up pretty fast, because I'll see the "Next class on XXX" sign, and a couple of days later the date is changed for the next class. Every pawn shop you go in has cards for certified teachers who will do small or one-on-one training, and FL accepts almost ANY training that indicates you can use a gun without shooting your foot off. Police here encourage people to get licenses and to carry. I LOVE FL!

I'm glad you're getting your CCW, and I hope you carry as much as possible. I feel every additional person who carries adds a lot more protection than to just themselves, because it introduces a level of uncertainty in criminals. When they don't know by looking if you're able to hurt them, they tend to leave you alone. FL is hot to carry in, but I've found I can conceal a service size weapon underneath a straight hem untucked shirt, which allows me to look professional, but even with a t-shirt underneath (to prevent chafing from the holster, which can either be IWB or high on the belt) I don't burn up. I'm a computer technician, so I have to do a lot of moving around, and I don't want to scare clients. You have to use the clothing that works for you, but I found some good tips at www.corneredcat.com that work regardless of gender.

Good luck in the class, and welcome to the ranks of the carrying. :-)
