my permanent record

Just today, the paranoid and failing Obama administration has taken a page out of the Marxist/communist/socialist/Nazi playbook and put out a blog post basically asking for people to snitch on their neighbors. (Dissent is no longer patriotic. Welcome to the USSA. Down with the bourgeoisie! Only goodthink shall be tolerated.)
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

I think I'll report myself. I'm sure the Left would think me plenty "fishy" indeed.

Dear Whitehouse.gov -

I'm sure I'm on a list somewhere, filed under "extremist - conservative, gun owner" so this might be redundant. But I'll make it easy for you since being Big Brother must be such hard work.

I want to keep the money I earn, own and shoot as many guns as I want, and have the federal government leave me the hell alone as much as possible. I'm not shy about it, really.

I've handpainted signs for Tea Party protests, and held them proudly in the freezing rain. I've blogged about guns and the importance of the Second Amendment. I have yet to receive a check from either the RNC or the NRA. I am grassroots.

I'm angry about the bogus $787 billion, unread and yet passed anyway, Stimulus bill. Laden with earmarks and pork, it will be paid for with taxpayer money. My money. My neighbor's money...quite possibly for generations to come.

I'm against universal healthcare for a lot of reasons - among them the fact that whittling a peg to hobble around on is not high up on my to-do list. I also don't like the idea of paying for some idiot's third abortion, heart medication for the fat slob who sits around eating ding-dongs and cheetos all day, or even the broken wrist of some kid who skateboards in the library parking lot. These are not my life style choices, so why should I have to pay for them?

I've seen the missive you've sent to your minions and honestly, if they showed up on my doorstep, I'd be happy to talk to them - as long as they didn't mind the pistol I'd be wearing on my hip.

Breda - I agree with everything but the broken wrist. The first two are choices, the third is an accident. We should not be paying for choices, esspecially when it comes to abortion (whether you gree with it or not), vasectomies, plastic surgeries, etc. or in the majority of cases obesity (lifestyle choice - I do believe that there are some people who just can't lose weight no matter what they do). It pisses me off no end that abortions are readily covered under my insurance plan regardless of number but we had to fight to get my wife's followup mammogram covered.

Anon 1:01pm - I'm with you there, although I think she was refering to the kid taking stupid risks on a skateboard -- you know, the one who yells "Hey guys, watch this!" as he attempts to grind on a rail 18 feet off the ground.

Breda,

I tried twice to "create a link" to this post. Neither works. Anyway, I commented on my blog in this post:

I am simply getting tired of hearing from those that have subsidized health care (under the guise of employer paid health benefits, Medicare, VA, Medicaid) bitching about "socialized medicine"

I am self employed and I have to pay $7,000 every year in health insurance. I also already have to contribute to someone else's health coverage either under medicare or medicaid.

Stop bitching, grow up and be constructive.

Doesn't someone else also foot the bill for your lifestyle? If you were to have a serious injury because a squib round during rapid fire, would our health plan just eat the loss? Nupe. They would spread their losses amongst all of the other plan participants. Grow up or go off the grid.

Willing being "flagged" by the Obama Administration carry the same mark of distinction as Hollywood execs being called before HUAC?

Hell yes there's a lot of misinformation out there--starting with the fact that it has anything to do with health, care, quality of service or insurance.

Not a single member of Congress could provide any valuable assistance in the maintenance of your own health. Not because of incompetence, but because the scope is so great and the detail so complicated, no single human intellect is capable of understanding all the permutations, much less "regulate" them to the benefit of every single individual.

To put it in the simplest possible terms: for the vast majority of people in this country, the federal government is taking a big chunk of tax money, and giving back smaller pieces of it. That's it. There is no other benefit. It doesn't even have a delay (before you have to eat dog food and shut off the furnace in the winter) like Social Security. You pay right now to get your money filtered through the fe'ral gov't. It's the Mr. Tea of social programs.

Anon 1:01, why do you think anyone else should pay for the broken wrist merely because it was an "accident?" I object to the assumption that I am responsible for anyone's medical care other than my own.

Further, the real reason to oppose Obamacare has nothing to do with costs. Even if the federal government could provide medical care more effectively, more efficiently, and less expensively than the private sector (which it cannot) it is still wrong because doing so transforms us from free citizens to wards of the state.

I find that whole concept repulsive. If the government becomes our health care provider, then we all are dependents. Or maybe you prefer the term serf.

That is the inevitable result of redefining "right" to include goods and services taken from others.

I know I'm late commenting on this post, but, it's worthy of a major pat on the back.

Thank you, Breda, for wording it so well.

And if this is rammed through regardless of the obvious opposition to it from the American people, I just want you to know that there are plenty of readers here who will be happy to help whittle a peg for you.

;-)

Even if they outlaw that without a government approved medical license, we'll gladly be outlaws for the cause.
