protip:

When you ask a reference librarian how to spell the word "library," it's probably best not to argue with her.

Wow, I need to hear more of this mind-numbing stupidity!

Please tell me this person was with a legal custodian, as they likely should not be out on their own!

Dang, he beat me to it.

If you'd have smelled it like Unc said, there would have been no comment.

There is absolutely nothing on this planet, from commies to hard water stains, that annoys me as much as somebody who comes to you for an answer, and then argues with you when you give them one.

Oh. My. Gawd. does that just grind me to an absolute halt.

Breda

I read this to my wife who also works at a l-i-b-r-a-r-y and she offers her sympathy.

She also says that "Yes, people are that dumb" and represses the urge to pistol whip them when they ask stuff like that.

My wife's least favorite one is "Oh, you're a librarian! What do you do besides shelve books?"

Breda, I have no idea how you resist the urge to either laugh at them or say something incredibly snarky.

And remember, her vote counts just as much as yours....

Gee thanks Mike. I needed something else depressing to think about today. :P

Uh, somebody actually DID that?!
@Anonymous 1:29:, if I were your wife: "I catalog them in such a way that even idiots like you have a chance of finding them."

As anyone who has ever worked tech support can confirm.

Well, you can argue, but you'll still be wrong.

And stupid.

I once had Dell tech support ask me how to boot into safe mode. I worked for McAfee at the time. I told them how and then they doubted me and tried to argue. This happens quite a bit in the IT field.

Don't argue with the liebrarianne?

That takes all the fun out of visiting, LOL.

One "n" short of what I'd like to be having for breakfast.

Ask me about the time at Dunkin' Donuts when the owner -- the frakkin' franchisee! -- argued with me that I had ordered something I had most certainly not ordered.

Wow. Just...wow.

@ Bob G.: I do Tech support for the Library. Need I say more?

I once had a company VP ask me a question that required a fairly technical answer. After I finished talking and her eyes unglazed she said, I kid you not,

"I didn't understand any of that but I don't think it's right."
