Newbius recounts the tale of our run-in with one of Pittsburgh's least friendly denizens.
I had to share the link because I am LOLing now almost as hard as I did that night (at least I believe I was laughing then - it was so loud in that bar I could hardly hear myself think) and because, well, my tshirt is awesome and Iain Harrison - TopShot winner and Crimson Trace rep (thank you for the super awesome Bersa lasergrips!) totally deserves an "eye candy" tag.

guilty
I confess it was yours truly who turned down a chance to be interviewed by Glenn Reynolds.
He was real nice about letting me get a photo with him, though, all things considered.

Sorry I missed you!
Oh, how I wish I'd known they were there.
Anyway, this is the sort of thing you get when people who don't know much about guns talk about guns on TV. Here's some highlights, although I'd suggest you watch the whole thing.
Megan McCain, 3:25 - "I felt compelled to be a new face, or just another face because I don't think you see a lot of young women talking about Second Amendment rights and gun ownership."
And here I thought Meggy Mac was 'net savvy. Poor thing, maybe I should email her. (However, I suspect I'm not nearly fabulous enough for her, despite my being famous on the interwebz.)
Also? "Semi assault rifle"? Seriously? It's cute how you make up words, Megan. Too bad they make you sound like an ignorant anti-gunner.
Rachel Maddow, on the Tuscon shooting, 4:49 - "But Jared Loughner would have only had 10 shots if the NRA hadn't pushed for the assault weapons ban to expire, including that ban on those clips."
Oh, dear...where do I begin? Has Rachel never heard about dropping a MAGAZINE and reloading?
Interesting how Megan quickly aligns herself on the high capacity magazine issue with Dick Cheney, who should probably shut up about it too. Especially now, after his name was used over and over as some sort of "Look! I really am a real Republican!" mantra in this video. Sheesh.
Aaaand, Meggy Mac closes the segment with another "semi assault rifle" quote. Sigh.
*Thanks to John Richardson at No Lawyers - Only Guns and Money for sending me this link. Even though I think my head near exploded the 1st time I watched it.

6:18 - Neither Rachel nor Megan know what the "gun show loophole" even IS.

Rachel Maddow, 9:27 - "Let's start with the small things like if you're on the terrorism watchlist, you can't buy a gun."
How does Rachel think that watchlist is created? Hell, at this point, I might even be on that list. I never cease to be amazed at the trust some people have in the wisdom and the motives of their government.

But I'll be fair...it really wasn't all bad. Both ladies like to shoot and Ms. McCain makes all the right noises - how most gun laws only punish law abiding gun owners, how guns serve as an equalizing force for women, how training and education is an important part of gun ownership. Still, they both have a long way to go and it would have served them both well to speak to real women with guns. I hear there were quite a few in Pittsburgh that weekend.*Thanks to John Richardson at No Lawyers - Only Guns and Money for sending me this link. gimps with guns...
Don't mess with us because we're more likely to shoot than try to run away.
Me & my buddy MikeW from Another Gunblog, who is awesome.

good gear
Weer'd readers are already aware of this, but I bought myself a new holster. I have been looking for something a bit sturdier than my old leather JBP belt slide and made it my mission to find one at the NRA Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh.
Unimpressed with Blackhawk's Serpa line, I eventually stumbled across the Galco booth. It seemed they had quite a few options for my Bersa Thunder .380 but in the end, I opted for the simplest design, an M7X Matrix.
Here's the zoom:
Aside from being one of the best looking plastic holsters available (everyone thinks it's hand molded leather) the M7X is low profile, high set, and has some serious retention - I love it. It's comfortable because the safety no longer digs into the curve of my hip, my Bersa feels more secure since the gun doesn't slide around on my belt and the absolute best part? No more having to unholster when I, um...visit the ladies' room to powder my nose.

(you'd think the most famous Bersa on the internet would garner some swag, right?)

unit conversion
1 Breda = 60 inches.
And you know what? In an exhibit hall packed full of the shiniest newfangled high tech firearms you can imagine, old guns are the ones I always love best.

be a pal
SayUncle will be at a Pittsburgh hotel bar at about 8:00PM on Thursday, April 28th. If you're in the area, you should probably stop by because the idea of him sitting there, bourbon in hand, all by his lonesome...well, that's just sad.

A real to-do.
The NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Pittsburgh is fast approaching as is The (2nd Annual!) Breda Fallacy Blogger Reception. Alan Gottlieb must have had a good time at the party in Charlotte because this year, the Second Amendment Foundation was kind enough to co-host, offering both a venue and refreshments. (cash bar, though, so you all can fight over who gets to buy me a drink)
I am really excited about this. So very excited, in fact, that I bought a dress and red lipstick for the event and insisted that Nancy R. absolutely MUST wear her new shoes. I'm told gunnies can clean up real nice so it's bound to be a lovely evening. There's even rumors of an afterparty.
Also, if there's any new bloggers/first-time convention goers who would like a media pass, please send me an email (bredafallacy AT gmail DOT com) and I'll help you out. Since I've been doing exactly this for a couple of months now anyway, I thought I'd put up a post today to spread the not-quite-last-minute word. Bloggers are changing the way the world finds information and the NRA knows it. They do a great job of reaching out to and encouraging new media, and it's honestly wonderful to be a part of the whole endeavor. A media pass not only grants you access to a great number of fun activities, but will hopefully inspire a great number of blog posts as well.
See you soon! (Why, yes, I am stifling a squee.)

the SAF &...me?
Each spring, the annual NRA Meetings & Exhibits descend upon one special city in the United States. It's an exciting time for any gun enthusiast who is lucky enough to attend but perhaps even more so for gunbloggers, who take advantage of the event to meet with their peers.
This year, Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation approached me with the honor of being the hostess for their Blogger Reception. Much like my blogger dinner last year in Charlotte, it'll be an opportunity for real life fun and conversation with like-minded people you only know from the internet. Food will be provided, a cash bar will be available, and Mr. Gottlieb will be open to Q&A regarding the SAF and any legal cases that they have filed since their landmark McDonald vs. Chicago Supreme Court victory.
The reception is planned for Saturday, April 30th, from 6-9 PM at the Courtyard by Marriot located across the street from the convention center.
Many of you may already received an email invitation from Mr. Gottlieb but I'd like to extend the invitation to any blogger who attended my party last year in Charlotte. If you'll be in Pittsburgh and have Saturday evening free, please join us! RSVP (with name & email address PLEASE) to my email but hurry because space is limited.
Hope to see you there!
