the big time

For a (former) kid who spent a lot of time hoping to find her unusual, often-mispronounced, Gaelic name on some pink sparkly pencils, this is super cool.

My name on the Cam & Company big screen! Beats '80s kitsch any day.

Cam Edwards, who is an awesome guy and a total pro, made my interview a lot of fun despite a serious case of the jitters. So, in case you missed it, here's the link. I'm on at about 1:23:00.

Double Feature!

Tonight at 10:20PM eastern time I'm going to be interviewed by Cam Edwards on NRA News.

I've been told by a very helpful friend that NRA News has millions of listeners. I have chosen to very vehemently not believe that - it's just going to be me, Cam Edwards (who is a very nice man, by the way), and maybe one or two of my closest blogreaders friends, all just happily hanging out on the internet.

I'm going to do fine. Just fine.

Right?

On the air again

I've been invited to be a guest on real radio show! This Sunday at 7PM eastern, I'll be talking with my friend Dr. Gene Garris on his new broadcast, America's Radio Show. If you are in the Columbia, SC area you can tune in to WOIC 1230 AM, otherwise use the link above to listen on the internet.

for your listening pleasure

Ever since he heard me on Gun Nuts and Vicious Circle, my friend Gene has been trying to get me to call into the radio show that he co-hosts. The Charles Campbell Show broadcasts from Columbia, S.C. each Saturday at 10AM (till noon) online and on WOIC 1230AM. From what I've heard, it's a great show about a little bit of everything, brought to you by two interesting and engaging personalities.

Well, I finally worked up enough gumption and made my debut...(I show up about an hour into the clip)

They liked me (!) and asked me if I could be a regular (!!). Stay tuned.

rolling in dough

I've been dreaming about making these Chinese pancakes ever since I spied the recipe. I imagined it to be similar to naan, the crispy, chewy Indian flatbread and the green onions made for what sounded to be a delightful addition.

The ingredients couldn't be simpler - flour, hot water and salt to make the dough. I used my Kitchenaid and its dough hook to mix everything together, followed by a quick knead to make a smooth ball which I covered with plastic wrap and let rest for an hour, as instructed. I checked my email, had a beer and prepared some coleslaw while I waited.

After I cut the dough into pieces and started heating the pan, I tried rolling out the dough and quickly realized that the kitchen counters were too high - I had no leverage. I got up on a step stool, put a little muscle into it and sure enough, I soon had 4 tidy little circles studded with green onion, all ready for frying.

I had a difficult time figuring out what to serve with the pancakes - I wondered, "The recipe is Chinese, do I have to make something Asian to go with them?" and then "But the ingredients are simple, that would go with most anything, right?"

As it turned out, Mike decided for me. He suggested I make what the Atomic Nerds now call "bredapork.*" The recipe is so easy, and the results are so delicious, I figured why not - there's probably nothing pulled pork's not good on.

Yep. Delicious.

*oh, & if you're not reading Labrat & Stingray, you're missing out - they are a great example of what makes the internet so awesome. Check out Labrat's cooking noob adventures for some great recipes and hysterical commentary like her," Good thing you didn’t go to “high”; that must be for disposing of bodies or something," when she was trying to decide on a food processor setting. For an extra special Atomic Nerds experience, spend some time listening to The Vicious Circle and you'll soon hear their voices in your head as you read their posts!

branching out

I made a short appearance on a weekly radio show last night, discussing the 2009 NRA Annual Meetings in Phoenix. Buckeye Firearms Association Chairman Jim Irvine hosts Firearms Forum, Ohio's first talk radio show about the Second Amendment and everything firearms related. Buckeye Firearms is a fantastic grassroots political action committee, dedicated to advancing the Second Amendment rights of Ohio's citizens. I was honored to be on the show.

Firearms Forum airs every Sunday night from 8pm to 9pm on Cleveland's WHK 1420 AM.

You can listen here.

for your listening pleasure!

Have you heard about The Vicious Circle?

Every week, Alan of snarkybytes manages to gather together a number of well-known bloggers for entertaining and sometimes even educational discussions on a variety of geeky and gunny topics. They even had the always contentious 1911 vs. Glock debate without a fight breaking out - no mean feat, that. The blogroll shows who has been on the show so far, but you never know who might make an appearance. (Gun Nuts doesn't have a monopoly on The Breda, you know.)

Links to the prerecorded podcasts are at the site and are also available on iTunes. Be sure to check back every week for some thing new!

p.s.
The quick wit and brilliant minds of those who hang out regularly in the Gunblogger Conspiracy have always reminded me of the Algonquin Round Table, so I was the one who suggested the name for the podcast. I think Mrs. Parker would approve.

Yay!

The podcast with Caleb, Bonnie (and Tracy, who was such a nice surprise) was so much fun!

Despite my nerves and over-preparation, (seriously? 5 pages of notes. The former honors student, crazed librarian thing kicked in big time. Yikes.) I think I sounded okay and was able to add a little something to the show.

Thank you so much to every single one of you who took the time to listen in and a special thanks to fellow blogger JayG and Joe (one of my treasured readers), who called in with questions. I was informed that this show was the best yet - not only did it have 3 smart and lovely women talking about guns but it also had the most listeners in Gun Nuts:TNG history!

If you missed it, you can still go to the Gun Nuts:TNG website and hear the show (there's even some good stuff that we recorded after we went off the air.) Enjoy!
